At the White House, during an event with American athletes, the possible Democratic candidate praised the “honesty and integrity” of the US president and made allusions to Trump.
On Monday, the US vice president praised Joe Biden’s “deep love” for the United States, in her first act as a potential presidential candidate since the Democratic leader’s withdrawal, highlighting that the White House leader did more in one term than his predecessors did in two.
“Joe Biden’s legacy of accomplishments over the past three years is unparalleled in modern history. In one term, he has already surpassed the legacy of most presidents who served two terms.”Kamala Harris said at a calendar event with the American national champion athletes. “We are so grateful for their service,” the vice president said, adding that Biden is “recovering” from Covid-19.
On the South Lawn of the White House and surrounded by dozens of journalists, television cameras and photographers, Harris followed the tone adopted in the reactions of influential Democrats to Biden’s withdrawal and highlighted “His honesty, integrity, his commitment to faith and family, his big heart and his deep love for country” who guided him in the decision to end his campaign.
“I am a witness. Our President fights every day for the American people,” he concluded. The speech lasted three minutes and there were no further comments on the American political situation.
In addition to withdrawing, Biden expressed his support for his vice president in the race for the White House, scheduled for November 5, for which former US president and Republican candidate Donald Trump has already been nominated.
