Kamala Harris slams Project 2025, a Trump allies’ partner: ‘These extremists want to push us back’

Harris said Project 2025 is a return to the past: “An attack on our children, our families, and our future.” In Indiana, she called for the support of women and black voters.

The US vice president, a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for the White House, stressed that in the November elections two visions of the country are at stake: one focused on the future and the other on the past. “I am fighting for our future,” Kamala Harris assured at an event in the state of Indiana, where she criticized Project 2025, which has been linked to several allies of former President Donald Trump.

“It’s a plan to return the United States to a dark past”he said of the 900-page book, which includes measures such as eliminating the Department of Education, which was already defended by Trump during the election campaign.

For Kamala Harris, Project 2025 It is an “attack on our children, our families and our future””These extremists want to push us back. We will not allow it,” he promised.

Project 2025 has been linked several times to Donald Trump, who has denied involvement or knowing who its authors are. However, several investigations by the American press have revealed links to many of his allies. CNN recently reported that 140 people who worked for Trump are involved in the initiative.

Harris seeks support from women and black voters

The US vice president spoke to more than six thousand women from the black sisterhood Zeta Phi Beta. Despite being technically an official White House event, scheduled several months ago, Kamala Harris took the opportunity to leave an appeal to one of the most loyal blocs of the Democratic Party to support her candidacy.

“We share a vision,” she stressed, addressing the members of the brotherhood, listing several episodes of their fight for social justice, including contributing to the victory of the Biden-Harris axis in 2020. “At the height of a pandemic, you helped elect Joe Biden as President of the United States and me as the first woman Vice President of the United States. Thank you.” Now our nation needs your leadership again.”, he said.

Indiana voters have not conceded victory to a Democratic presidential candidate in nearly 16 years. Harris therefore knows that the support of this sisterhood can help make inroads with an electorate she hopes will turn out in large numbers: black women. Indeed, in a note published on Wednesday, Harris’ campaign manager, Jen O’Malley Dillon, had already pointed out that the support of female, non-white and younger voters is crucial to electoral success.

At the beginning of her speech, and following the same line of recent days, Kamala Harris praised Joe Biden, who, upon announcing his retirement from the White House, supported her as a Democratic candidate. “He is a leader with a bold vision. Concerns about the future”he said, highlighting his “compassion” for the American people.

Harris would not end her speech without first returning to one of her main themes: the repeal of abortion bans. The vice president denounced Trump’s appointment of three judges to the Supreme Court of the United States with the aim of reversing the Roe vs. Wade ruling, which constitutionally protected voluntary termination of pregnancy in the country.

“And as he intended, so they did,” he said, leaving a promise to reverse the decision. “When I am president of the United States and Congress approves the restoration of these freedoms, I will write them in our law.”, he assured.
