Putin’s spokesman admits Russia’s birth rate is catastrophic

Dmitry Peskov said that the birth rate is catastrophic considering the size of the country: we are in a “demographic hole”. Reason: end of World War II and dissolution of the Soviet Union.

The Russian presidential spokesman acknowledged on Friday that the birth rate in Russia is catastrophic for the future of the country, which currently has 144 million inhabitants.

“We live in the largest country in the world and every year there are fewer of us. This is catastrophic for the future of the nation.”Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for President Vladimir Putin, said at a press conference.

In this regard, Peskov said that the situation can only be resolved by increasing the birth rate.

Asked by reporters whether the current birth rate reflects Russian citizens’ lack of confidence in the future, Peskov replied in the negative.

“This cannot be said because these are the same rates as those recorded in France, Germany, Spain and Japan, where they are even lower,” he replied.

Peskov said that “unfortunately” this is a “tendency” that in the case of Russia has other explanations, specifically what he described as “demographic hole”into which the country fell after the Second World War (1939-1945) and the end of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s.

The Kremlin spokesman also said that the authorities had taken a number of measures that “did not produce immediate results.”

“The situation (low birth rate) will remain difficult for some time,” he said, adding that demographics remained one of the Russian president’s priorities.

Last June, Russian authorities indicated that the Ban on the movement that advocates that women should not have children.if you so wish.

“We are now actively preparing bills to prevent the proliferation of ‘child-free’ ideas,” Deputy Justice Minister Vsevolod Vukolov said earlier.

Official estimates indicate that Russia’s population will be 143.2 million in 2030, the lowest level since 2012, and that in 2046 it should be 138.7 million.

Total, Last year 1,264,000 children were born in Russiacountry at war with Ukraine, the lowest number since 1999, a year before Putin’s arrival at the Kremlin.

In addition to the effects of the war – in which between 60,000 and 70,000 men died, according to independent sources – the decline in the birth rate is due to the “demographic hole” in which the country finds itself, since women born in the 1990s reach “fertile age”, explain demographers.

According to experts, the number of women of childbearing age in Russia in 2030 will be 40% lower than in 2010.
