Two employees of a company at Lisbon airport arrested for drug trafficking

The suspects, aged 34 and 36, “stole drugs from planes” operating at the airport and took advantage of privileged access to circulate narcotic products between countries.

The Judicial Police (PJ) announced on Friday the arrest of two employees of a handling company operating at Lisbon airport, suspected of introducing large quantities of narcotic products into the country via regular flights.

The suspects, aged 34 and 36, “took the drugs from inside the aircraft operating there, taking advantage of the ease of access and circulation provided by their quality [de funcionários]”, the PJ added in a statement.

During this operation, called “Deep Clean-up – Story IX”, to combat international trafficking, the PJ claims to have seized a “large quantity of cocaine that, if it reaches the illicit distribution circuits, would be sufficient to form at least 435 thousand individual doses.”

The drugs arrived in Lisbon on a flight from South America, he added.

In a parallel operationBut without any arrests having been made yet, the PJ also seized a large amount of cocaine, which it does not specify, but that if it were distributed illegally “would be enough to compose at least 345 thousand individual doses.”

This drug arrived on another flight, but also from South America.

The detainees will undergo their first judicial interrogation to apply coercive measures.

In this operation, the Judicial Police had the support of the PSP – Airport Security Division of the Humberto Delgado Airport.
