  • Israeli ambassador accuses Guterres of “distorting” reality

Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, has criticized the organization’s secretary-general for denouncing an Israeli airstrike on a school in the Gaza Strip that killed 18 people, including six UN staff.

“What is unacceptable, António Guterres, is that you continue to refuse to acknowledge reality and continue to distort it,” wrote Danny Danon on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The ambassador said that the “terrorists” in buildings used by the UN in Gaza “are not innocent.” “It is unacceptable that the UN condemns Israel in its just war against terrorists, while Hamas continues to use women and children as human shields,” he wrote.

“I suggest that before making any statements, careful investigation should be carried out into who these terrorists were, what they did in the past and what atrocities they were committing when they were eliminated,” he added.

  • Guterres says attack on school in Gaza is “totally unacceptable”

The UN Secretary-General has mourned the deaths of six UN staff members who were killed in a school bombing on Wednesday. Eighteen people have died in total.

“A school that was converted into a shelter for 12,000 people was hit by Israeli airstrikes,” António Guterres said on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Guterres stressed that “what is happening in Gaza is totally unacceptable” and that “the dramatic violations of humanitarian law must stop now.”

The attack targeted the al-Jaouni school in the Nuseirat refugee camp. The Gaza Civil Defense spokesman revealed that 18 deaths have been recorded. The Israeli military said it carried out a “precise attack against terrorists” who were planning an attack from that location and that it took measures to avoid hitting civilians.
