Sergei Karaganov is an influential Russian politician and believes that Russia should clearly declare its readiness to use nuclear weapons against countries that “support NATO aggression in Ukraine.” He has therefore already put pressure on President Vladimir Putin to adopt a more assertive nuclear policy towards the West.

He made the revelation in an interview with Kommersant newspaper, in which he stressed that Moscow could launch a limited nuclear attack against a NATO country without triggering a nuclear war.

The main goal of Russian nuclear doctrine, he added, quoted by Reuters news agency, “must be to ensure that all current and future enemies know that Russia is prepared to use nuclear weapons.”
