Portuguese and Spanish companies join forces to develop a satellite network

The agreement, which will be signed within the framework of the XVII COTEC Europe Meeting, represents an investment of 20 million euros and aims to strengthen Iberian collaboration in the Atlantic Constellation.

Two Portuguese companies and one Spanish company will join forces in an Iberian agreement to develop a satellite network that will allow monitoring of forests and coastal areas and assessing the impact of natural disasters on the Iberian Peninsula.

The “Iberian Space Partnership”, or Iberian Space Partnership, will bring together GEOSATPortuguese operator of Earth observation satellites, CEIIAPortuguese center for engineering and product development and SATLANTISSpanish company specialized in the manufacture of cameras for satellites.

The agreement, which will be signed on Thursday within the framework of the XVII COTEC European Meeting, represents a investment of 20 million euros and aims to strengthen Iberian collaboration in the Atlantic Constellation.

In a statement, the organizations explain that the objective of the alliance is to develop a satellite network to monitoring forests, woodlands and coastal areas from Portugal and Spain.

Satellites will also allow for the collection of Information on biodiversity and the impact of natural disasters. in the Iberian Peninsula.

The agreement, which arises from the connections developed within the COTEC Europe network, will be signed by the president of CEIIA Isabel Furtado, who is also a member of the board of directors of COTEC Portugal, and by the president of the Cotec Foundation and co-founder of SATLANTIS, Cristina Garmendia.

The companies aim to “accelerate the development and market launch of innovative products and services based on satellite images for the markets of land management, infrastructure, agriculture, sustainability, insurance, security and defence.”

Quoted in a statement, COTEC Portugal’s general manager, Jorge Portugal, highlights the role of the European network and the “extraordinary potential for collaboration between companies from Portugal, Spain and Italy, which is important to explore and which can contribute to strengthening Europe’s technological sovereignty.”

The XVII COTEC Meeting, dedicated to technological sovereignty, takes place between Thursday and Friday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.
