Similar orders were issued against the sister of the Argentine head of state, Karina Milei, general secretary of the Presidency, and against the Argentine Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich.

In response, the Argentine Foreign Ministry “repudiated the arrest warrants,” highlighting that the seizure of the Venezuelan plane It was a judicial decision.

The ministry reiterated the separation of powers in force in Argentina, “which unfortunately is not the case in Venezuela under the regime of Nicolás Maduro,” according to a statement.

The Venezuelan official said in a press conference that Javier “Milei has become a brutal danger for the entire hemisphere.”

“One of the cases that most highlights this, where the Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation based on international law and the law that governs our country, is the theft of the Emtrasur plane,” said Saab, who also announced the appointment of two specialist prosecutors to handle these proceedings.

On Wednesday, Saab announced the appointment of a “specialized prosecutor” to investigate alleged crimes against humanity in Argentinaafter condemning what he called attacks on the elderly and young people, in reference to the repression of anti-government demonstrations.

The Attorney General stated that Milei “attacks Venezuela, Venezuelan democratic institutions, the Venezuelan State and those who ‘motu proprio’ assume Bolivarian nationalism as part of a doctrine of liberation of the people.”

In June 2022, Argentine authorities seized a plane belonging to Emtrasur, a Venezuelan cargo airline and subsidiary of a state-owned company under US sanctions.

The 19 crew members were arrested and later released, including four Iranians, one of whom was, according to Washington, a former commander of the Revolutionary Guard, an organisation classified as a terrorist organisation by the United States.

In February, under President Javier Milei, the United States government took possession of the plane.

In early September, the Venezuelan government said it had evidence that the Argentine Embassy in Caracas was being used “for the planning of terrorist activities and assassination attempts” against President Nicolás Maduro and Vice President Delcy Rodríguez.

Some of the six asylum seekers from the opposition, who have been sheltering since March in the Argentine diplomatic mission in Caracas, said that hooded and armed police surrounded the building.

Since August, Brazil has been guarding the diplomatic missions of Argentina and Peru in Venezuela, in addition to representing the citizens and interests of both countries, following the expulsion of members of both delegations for not accepting Maduro’s victory in the presidential elections of July 28.
