A large explosion in a tanker truck outside Karachi airport in Pakistan killed two people and injured at least eight on Monday, according to authorities.
Provincial Interior Minister Zia Ul Hassan told local Geo television that it was an attack against foreigners.
For his part, an official from the Ministry of the Interior told the North American news agency AP that it was an attack against Chinese citizens, one of whom was injured.
Thousands of Chinese workers are in Pakistan, most of them involved in Beijing’s multibillion-dollar “One Belt, One Road” initiative linking central and southern Asia with the Chinese capital.
The videos show cars on fire and a thick column of smoke coming out of the place, and an important military detachment was sent to the place, which was isolated.
The deputy inspector general for the east of the country, Azfar Mahesar, said authorities were investigating the cause. “We are determining the nature and reasons for the explosion. “This takes time,” he said.
Among the injured were police officers, he added.
