Arrested in Porto, accused by Interpol for helping illegal emigration

The arrested suspect is 43 years old and was detained during a routine inspection on Thursday in Porto’s Campo 24 de Agosto. An extradition request is pending.

A 43-year-old man, without a fixed residence in the national territory and identified by Interpol for helping illegal emigration, was arrested on Thursday in Campo 24 de Agosto, in Porto, the PSP revealed this Friday in a statement.

The arrest occurred at 1:30 p.m. during a routine inspection, the Police add.

According to the PSP statement, the suspect is the subject of an Interpol extradition request to his country of origin for crimes of the same nature, which is why he was detained.

Lusa asked the police for clarification and was told that the extradition request is based on suspicion of aiding illegal emigration.

The suspect will appear before judicial authorities this Friday.
