The National Electoral Commission (CNE) of Mozambique announces this Thursday the results of the general elections of October 9, which must be validated and proclaimed by the Constitutional Council, in a day of demonstrations and strike called by the candidate Venâncio Mondlane.

According to the CNE spokesperson, Paulo Cuinica, the announcement of the electoral results of the vote, which included the seventh presidential elections, in which the current Head of State, Filipe Nyusi, no longer ran, coincided with the legislative elections and for the provincial assemblies and governors. The meetings will take place starting at 3:30 p.m. local time (2:30 p.m. in Lisbon), at the Joaquim Chissano International Congress Center, in Maputo.

The CNE had up to 15 days to announce the official results of the October 9 vote, with the Constitutional Council then being in charge of announcing the results, after also completing the analysis of possible resources, but without a defined deadline for this purpose.

“We are going to sacrifice two days of our lives so that we can all talk. And we do not need to inform the police, the municipality,” announced Venâncio Mondlane.

“The country must remain still in these two days,” he said, calling this the second stage of what he calls Mozambique’s “revolutionary roadmap,” insisting that the CNE is preparing to announce “deeply false results.”

“It’s not what people voted for. That is clear,” he also said, alluding to the results at the provincial level, which gave victory to the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo, in power), and its presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, with more than 60 votes. % of votes.

Presidential candidate Daniel Chapo said Tuesday that Frelimo awaits with “calm and serenity” the publication of the results of the general elections by the official bodies.

“As an organized, structured, mature party, which prepares and organizes its victories, we are currently, calmly and serenely, from Rovuma to Maputo, waiting for the electoral bodies to announce the results,” declared Daniel Chapo.

“We, on this day when the results are announced, with respect for the electoral bodies, are the ones who are going to have our party (…) Our calm and serenity is the result of being a party of peace, of concord, of organized, structured, mature, a party that organizes and prepares its victories,” added the candidate and general secretary of Frelimo.

Venâncio Mondlane said that he was calling for “demonstrations in all neighborhoods, districts and administrative posts” in the country for these two days, and as a “gift” for the CNE.

“We have already demonstrated it from our parallel counting center, we have also demonstrated it from notices that we share with our own people. And the conscience of the people themselves also shows that they did not vote for Frelimo and that they did not vote for the Frelimo candidate (…) On the other hand, our people continue to be humiliated, our people continue to be sacrificed,” he stated. he said, to explain the purpose of what he claims to be the second stage of the challenge.

He insisted, however, that they were “peaceful demonstrations”: “It is not to destroy public property. It is not about destroying public institutions, it is not about destroying the goods that we will need. The right to demonstrate is our right.”

The district and provincial electoral commissions have already completed the counting of the votes, which according to public announcements give an advantage to the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo, the party in power) and the presidential candidate that that party supports, Daniel Chapo, over El 60% of the votes, although presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane questions these results, citing data from the original voting minutes and obituaries.

After the double murder of Elvino Dias, Mondlane’s lawyer, and Paulo Guambe, representative of Podemos, a party that supports Mondlane, on Friday, the candidate also called for peaceful marches for Monday in Mozambique, which were dispersed with shots in the air and tears. gas in Maputo, clashes that left at least 16 injured, according to a hospital source, and dozens of arrests throughout the country.
