Port. Immigrant attackers spied on victims and planned attacks using social media

Fifteen men suspected of having broken into a house of North African immigrants, beating those who lived there, spying on the victims and coordinating through a private messaging group on Telegram.

The group of 15 men accused by the PJ of Porto, suspected of having invaded a house where Maghreb immigrants live and having beaten those who lived there, previously spied on the victims and coordinated through a private messaging group on Telegram and, Also, the WhatsApp messaging platform. According to Jornal de Notícias, this militia was organized and the attack, at the beginning of May, was planned in detail.

The private (and encrypted) Telegram group was called “SOS Porto Invicta” and was used to plan not only that racist attack but two others, that same night. The WhatsApp group was titled “Ancient, very noble, always loyal and undefeated city of Porto” and it was also there where photographs of the people who would be victims of that attack on Rua do Bonfim were previously shared.

After the raid on a house in that area, two Algerians were beaten with baseball bats after midnight in Campo 24 de Agosto. And around 3 in the morning, in Batalha Square, next to a kebab restaurant, five members of the group beat an immigrant of Moroccan origin. Shortly after, one of the suspects was intercepted by a PSP patrol that was in the area. Another of the suspects was arrested in September and has been in preventive detention for a month.
