Polls point to a technical tie between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump

Two polls published by CNN and the New York Times on the November 5 presidential elections point to a technical tie between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

Two surveys published this Friday by the CNN television network and the New York Times (NYT) on the electoral preferences of voters ahead of the presidential elections on November 5 point to a technical tie between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

The survey broadcast by CNN was conducted by SSRS between October 20 and 23 and shows 47% support for the two candidates.

The television recalled that, unlike the other two elections in which Trump ran, in 2016 and 2020, when the rival in each case had several points ahead in the polls, this time the difference is insignificant.

The newspaper’s report, prepared by Siena College, gives Harris 49% support compared to Trump’s 48%, nationally. Of the seven states considered decisive, four are led by Harris and three by Trump, in both cases by just one point of difference, which is considered insignificant if the margin of error is taken into account.

Other states have clear trends identified, but are divided between the two candidates: Harris has leads of six percentage points or more in Minnesota, New Hampshire or Virginia and Trump in Texas, Florida and Ohio.

If these polls are translated into votes in the electoral college, Harris could count 276 votes, with the majority being 270, compared to Trump’s 262.
