This is the PS proposal that the chamber immediately adopt a precautionary measure “so that the Government’s desire to increase the number of flights in Lisbon does not materialize.”
The mayor of Lisbon assured this Wednesday that a precautionary measure will be presented to prevent the works to expand the capacity of the Humberto Delgado airport, as planned in a socialist proposal approved with the votes against the PSD/CDS-PP.
“In relation to [proposta de] precautionary measure, it was sent to the services and the services are preparing it,” said Carlos Moedas, in response to the PS councilor, Inês Drummond, at the council’s public meeting.
This is the PS proposal, approved on October 9 with the vote against the leadership of the PSD/CDS-PP (which governs without an absolute majority), so that the chamber can immediately move forward with a precautionary measure “so that The Government’s desire to increase the number of flights in Lisbon does not materialize (38 to 45 movements per hour)”.
“The works can begin, if they have not already started, and, therefore, we continue with this precautionary measure is urgent and compelling. It is up to you, Mr. President, to set the pace so that this precautionary measure can be adopted quickly,” declared Inês Drummond.
The proposal approved by the chamber also determines the complaint before the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic for non-compliance with the legal regime of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), “since the Government intends to advance with illegal works to expand the airport’s capacity without this environmental evaluation having been carried out,” reported the PS council.
Another measure involves “take legal action against ANA for non-compliance with the Noise Action Plantaking into account that the concessionaire did not carry out soundproofing works in homes or equipment”, the chamber is obliged to provide support to all those who wish to carry out autonomous popular actions.
At the public meeting this Wednesday, the PS councilor reinforced that the judicial actions against ANA “also have to move forward urgently”, questioning whether the complaint before the Public Ministry is also pending in the services, but without receiving a response.
“This is very clear, it is fast, it is a participation within the scope of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic, for non-compliance with the AIA regime. Mr. President, this costs nothing,” highlighted the socialist, reinforcing the warning so that the signal is quickly given that the chamber “is on the side of the health of Lisbon residents and the quality of life in the city of Lisbon.”
As part of the PS proposal, approved in early October, the chamber must also install a Complementary and autonomous system for measuring noise and pollution levels. in the Humberto Delgado Airport area.
On September 25, the Lisbon Chamber unanimously defended the need to reduce the number of movements per hour at the Humberto Delgado airport (AHD), rejecting any increase in airport capacity and fighting for the definitive closure of this infrastructure “in less of 10 years.”
This is a decision of the current Government (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM), through resolution of the Council of Ministers No. 67/2024, to increase airport capacity in AHD, in number of movements per hour, from 38 to 45, and in number of passengers, from 33.6 million to between 40 and 45 million.
