The Saudi Shaheed platform recently started broadcasting the drama series Eight (Directed by Ahmed Medhat-Written by Turki Al Sheikh) consisting of eight episodes starring Khaled Al-Sawi, Aser Yassin, Munter Raihana, Mahmoud Al-Bazzawi and Reem Mustafa; In addition to the long list of guest stars such as Jihad Saad, Muhammad Mamdouh, Wada Suwar and Khaled Saqr of Saudi Arabia. In addition to them, there were three foreign guests, the Americans Michael Beach and Richard Di Maio, and Russian actor Pasha Leshnikov.

Turki Al-Sheikh was not the first Persian Gulf “official” to write a dramatic work; Others, such as the late Saudi minister and writer Ghazi al-Kusaibi, even went so far as to write texts and works, some of which were turned into drama series. But the irony is that only Al-Sheikh uses his position to such an extent to promote his business and sell himself. He does it himself. True, not directly, but everyone knows that if digital “Shahed” did a job, then it was the rule of funding and management in the Al-Sheikh family itself. The latter wrote on his page on communication sites after the publication of the promo teaser series: “The first productions of Razam (the Razam company for the production of films, television series and music), where he was concerned about the quality of the content, performance and names of the participants. Razam is all my passion that I want to express, one of the most important is to support talented people around the world. ” In fact, what are the “hobbies” of the Sheikh family? No one knows, but it seems “artistic/cultural”.
The series tells the story of a wealthy businessman named Nasser El-Minshawi (a great Egyptian actor Khaled El-Sawi) who works as a food and beverage salesman. But in reality, he is a gang leader, smuggling, as usual in this type of series, while insisting on giving El Minshawi a great “place” in the world of organized crime. He loves this gangster’s son; Officer Adham Al-Baroudi (Asser Yassin) working as an Egyptian police officer in a fake security agency called the United Nations International Organized Crime Agency. “Adam” reminds us of the Egyptian “N1” spy character Adham Sabri, who was met by the late Egyptian writer Nabil Farouk and given the name “Impossible Man”. He is an amazing, unique and very charismatic officer. Sara (daughter of Minshawi, played by Lara Iskandar) and Najla (sister of Al-Baroudi, played by Sara Abdel-Rahman) are best friends; They were shot from an unknown source or target: Sara, who was also Adham’s girlfriend, died, and Najla fell into a coma at the hospital. Soon, Al-Baroudi and Al-Minshawi decided to team up to confront the shooter and take revenge on him.

Khaled El-Sawi in the series

The G8 is being filmed in Egypt, France, Morocco, Bulgaria and Lebanon. Given the big names that have performed in his top roles, it can be inferred that Al Sheikh wanted to enter the television business from its widest door. This budget is shown when shooting car chase scenes because most used vehicles are very modern, in addition to the need for cameras and photographers and the risk for this type of scene, making it common expensive, especially if filmed in countries like France or Lebanon. In terms of performance, it can be said that the presence of Khaled El-Sawi and Aser Yassin in any task provides great value, as El-Sawi is one of the most important current stars in Egypt, especially in more than one unique performance in the personality of the leader of the Brotherhood “Khairat al-Shater” in the third part of the “Choice” series. As for Yasin, he came from the series “Arabian Costumes”, where he performed a performance worthy of the reputation of a great actor. Both have proven that they can work together and add many to the characters they play.
However, this series of action and suspense is full of common and recurring clichés. Rich gangster, father of an “angelic” daughter, smart “Harbuk” who knows Baudelaire and listens to classical music, the opposite of the “supernatural” intellectual who runs fast, jumps from a helicopter, checks and discussed, in addition to his knowledge of several languages, in addition to a kind of cliché “I have never worked with a woman before,” said Mazen (Mohamed Alaa), an Egyptian police officer, to his colleague Caroline (Natasha Choufani), a female police officer. . from Lebanon. It is known that the presence of Egyptian and Arab female police officers has been present for many years in both internal and external affairs in both Egypt and Lebanon, and this is evident; But perhaps the Al-Sheikh family suggested that referring to it could add a comic or “indigestible” aspect to the series. The latter tried to be very tense, but at the same time fell into the trap of “overdoing it” with a dose of action, because it was not, after all, a movie that would end in an hour and a half. “Eight” at one point seemed too “stand out”, fast at times, more than the speed of the series, and some people might like it, but some might find it too heavy.

The sea of money he enjoys will give him the opportunity to create a lot of experience.

It is impossible to say directly whether director Ahmed Medhat is right or wrong in this work. After the first few episodes, it can be said that on an open budget like this, it gave an acceptable performance. The cameras helped him a lot to show a special “villain”, although sometimes a cartoon, with a somewhat “supernatural” hero, and “lovers/sisters” who are more like angels. Honestly, if it weren’t for the quality of the actors, we really had a problem, especially since the script didn’t match the director’s decision to raise the level of the series properly. At the same time, there are beautiful moments, such as the use of French songs (such as the late Dalida) as background music, as well as a kind of notification of the arrival of Nasser Al-Minshawi’s character.
In other words, this is the series “Experience”, “Abu Nasser” (Turki Al Sheikh) who is trying to enter the world of drama and we don’t know what his next experience will be, especially the sea of \ u200b \ The u200bmoney he wants will give him the opportunity to create a lot of experience, so will it benefit the arts or culture in the Arab world? The trial is certainly for the public and for history as well.
