Americans are increasingly pressured by the state of the national economy and the direction of the country.
According to an AP-NORC survey released Friday, 78% of adults believe the country’s economy is in bad shape, up from 70% last month.
The sharp drop in economic analysis was caused by a drop in sentiment among Democrats. A month ago, 47% of Democrats described the economy as good. In May, this rate dropped to 35 percent.
While Republicans already rate the economy as tough, only 10 percent said it was doing well in April. In May, that number dropped to seven percent.
Two-thirds of Americans disagree with the way President Joe Biden is managing the economy. This is not a sudden turn against the president or a reaction to bad news. According to the Associated Press, this excessive disapproval has continued over the past few months.
Just 18 percent of Americans said Biden’s policies had helped rather than hurt the economy, up from 24 percent in March. 81 percent said Biden’s policies hurt or did nothing to the economy, 51 percent said they did more harm than they helped, and 30 percent said they had little effect at all.
Even among Democrats, faith in Biden’s policies collapsed. The share of Democrats who said Biden’s policies helped fell from 45 percent to 37 percent. Most Democrats say Biden’s policies have hurt or not affected the economy, while 18 percent say they have been hurt and 44 percent say they haven’t made any changes.
Concerns about rising prices intensified.
Seventy-four percent, down from 68 percent in March, say they are extremely worried about gas prices. The other 18 percent are a little worried. 68% say they are very worried about food prices, while this rate is 59%. While 61% say they are worried about the prices of other products and services, this rate is 53%. Housing costs rose from 40 percent to 54 percent.
Biden’s overall approval rate has dropped to 39 percent, the lowest during his presidency.
From the AP survey report:
“I don’t know how much worse it is,” said Milan Ramsey, a 29-year-old school counselor and Democrat from Santa Monica, California, who had to move into his parents’ home with his wife to raise their children. . baby boy.
Ramsey believes it’s not Biden’s fault for the economic dysfunction that caused him to be unable to afford where he grew up. But it has been disappointed that it has not implemented ambitious plans to tackle climate change or improve health care.
“He didn’t keep any of his promises. “I feel the incentive checks are out, and that’s the last success of his administration,” he said. “I think he’s tired – and I don’t blame him, I would have been tired at his age with the career he had.”
Seventy-eight percent of Americans, up from 70 percent in the April AP-NORC poll, agree that the county is headed in the wrong direction. This change was due to the decline in the positive outlook on Democrats. In March, 55 percent of Democrats said the country was heading in the right direction. In the May poll, only 33 percent thought so.
