TAP pilots reject the company’s new proposal to work on rest days

The TAP pilots rejected a new agreement proposal from the company for this summer’s operation, which provided for an increase in the work carried out on days off, altered vacations or holidays by 25%, 50% and 100%, respectively.

Once again, it was absolutely clear that the pilots do not intend to give up days of rest or free time, essential to balance the demands of their profession and personal life, in exchange for what was stolen from them with assumptions that are not there today, “reads in a statement sent by the Civil Aviation Pilots Union (SPAC) to the affiliates, to which Lusa had access, dated this Thursday.

On Wednesday, SPAC voted on a new TAP proposal that, according to an internal statement from the TAP executive committee, to which Lusa had access, establishes that “work provided on days off, altered vacations or holidays” be “specialized in 25%, 50% and 100%, respectively”.

In an assembly that lasted almost 10 hours, 87% of the 875 pilots present or represented voted against the new proposal negotiated between the company and SPAC.

It is recalled that, within the framework of the airline’s restructuring plan, the pilots signed a Temporary Emergency Agreement (ATE), which allowed the company to apply 50% salary cuts to them in the first year of its application.

According to SPAC, “the good will of the class does not exist, crushed as it was by the treatment that the TAP management has given it and by the successive violations of the signed Agreements”, thus appealing to the associates not to accept invitations on days off or vacation. ”, requested changes or infractions to the RUPT [Regulamento de Utilização e Prestação de Trabalho]planned or resulting from irregularity”.

In mid-May, the pilots had rejected a TAP proposal, which provided for the immediate suspension of the additional 20% pay cut in exchange for making free time more flexible, considering it an “offense to collective dignity”, according to Lusa’s complaint.

The number of rest days after long-distance flights is regulated by a formula that results from scientific studies on these harmful effects, pilots considering that this reduction compromises the safety of the flight in the long term, when it is prolonged over time ” , he later pointed out in a statement. , the SPAC.

The main unions that represent TAP workers, including SPAC, meet this Friday with the company’s management, after a meeting with the guardianship, on Thursday, to defend that the temporary agreements with the workers are “adapted to reality “, “at a time when the company is reaching very positive operating rates, with pre-pandemic levels” of Covid-19.

In mid-May, TAP proposed to pilots the immediate suspension of the additional cut of 20% they have in remuneration, from 45% to 25%, having as compensation the flexibility of days off in the peak months of operation.

After the refusal of the SPAC, approximately a week later TAP decided to open “a new package of voluntary measures” for the pilots, according to an internal note, to which Lusa had access.
