Government of the Azores to support hiring in tourism, restaurants and hotels

The Government of the Azores will grant companies aid that can reach 36,000 euros for each worker hired without a fixed term and full time in the restaurant, hotel and tourism sector, the regional Employment Secretary announced on Monday.

The measure to encourage and support indefinite and full-time hiring in the restaurant, hotel and tourism sectors, called “TURIS.ESTAVEL”, was presented this Monday by the Regional Secretariat for Youth, Professional Qualification and Employment of the executive of the PSD/ CDS-PP/PPM coalition, Maria João Carreira.

“Given the difficulty that entities linked to tourism have expressed in terms of hiring workers, it is essential to generate measures to stabilize the situation of workers in these sectors of activity and, at the same time, promote their professional training,” María justified. Joao Carrera.

At a press conference in Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel, the head of the Employment portfolio mentioned that the tourism, hotel and restaurant sectors were “those that most felt the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic”.

“Now it is necessary to create specific support measures for these sectors, with a view to their economic recovery,” said the minister.

According to Maria João Carreiro, within the scope of the new measure, “Economic support will be given to employers in these sectors who hire new workers through indefinite contracts.

“We support the salary expenses of the company or entity with each worker hired under this measure, understanding salary expenses as the sum of gross remuneration, Social Security contributions, vacations and vacations,” he explained.

The head of the Employment portfolio in the Azores revealed that the support that each contracted worker must give “can reach a maximum limit of 36 thousand eurosbased on the remuneration paid by the company or entity to the worker”.

“That is, the higher the salary paid to the worker, the higher the amount of support,” he added.

Maria João Carreiro stressed that the measure is aimed at “stability at work and in the company’s personnel”, since “it presupposes the maintenance of each supported job for a period of three years”, time for the granting of the support for.

Each entity that benefits from “TURIS.ESTAVEL” is required to provide the supported worker with 150 hours of vocational training per yearthat is to say, about a month of training, being able to distribute the hours of training throughout the year, according to the availability and activity of the company itself.

“TURIS.ESTAVEL” provides for another type of economic support: the conversion of fixed, fixed or uncertain term contracts into indefinite contracts, for workers already integrated into the companies, with 100 hours of training associated with the support.

For these cases, “the economic support that each worker who saw their employment contract converted can reach up to 17,766 euros“said the governor.

Also according to Maria João Carreiro, the new measure “encourages active people looking for a first or new job, as well as the unemployed, to enter a growing sector and for which job offers are increasing”, in addition to contributing to the qualification of tourism in the Azores.

The Regional Secretary for Employment has also stressed that the Government of the Azores “is acting within the framework of its powers and within the limits of its resources” and has challenged companies and entities in the restaurant, hotel and tourism to “cooperate in this collective effort”. ”.

Applications for ‘TURIS.ESTAVEL’ can be submitted as of Tuesday, on the Emprego.Azores platform.

This new measure can be combined with the Pro Ativo measure, which has already entered into force and aims to encourage active job search.

At the end of May, the regional secretary explained that through this measure, support that can reach two regional minimum wages is granted to the unemployed who attend occupational programs that conclude work contracts.
