Clyburn: Stimulus spending is at risk of inflation and we ‘seek’ balance, but Trump is ‘incapable’ of responding to COVID

On CNN’s New Day Monday, Majority Whip Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) says that large stimulus spending “puts the risk of breaking things.” And then you have to try to find a balance in all of this, and we find that balance. But the search for balance will take time due to the “skill” of the Trump administration.

“Well, none of us are happy economically. We know how deep we are. As you know, I chair the Coronavirus Subcommittee and I know how wrong our healthcare system is trying to control the virus. I know how inept the previous administration was when it came to tackling this virus,” Clyburn said. “We fell into a deep hole and we needed to increase costs to get out of that hole. We invested in the economy, we tried to keep the business open, we tried to keep people with the income in their pockets. And every time you do that, you risk breaking something. Then all you have to do is do one.” “We’re trying to find balance, and we’re looking for that balance. We’ll be there. But when it comes to dealing with this virus, it took a while because of incompetence.”
