European stocks tumble as economic recession fears rise

European stocks continued to fall for a second straight session on Tuesday on concerns over energy shortages, while rising Covid-19 cases in China added to fears of a global economic recession.

According to Reuters, the decline affected most sectors, such as healthcare, technology and luxury goods. The oil sector showed slight growth. The pan-European Stoxx 600 fell 0.6% by 0727 GMT after falling 0.5% on Monday.

The mining sector fell 1.2 percent after several Chinese cities imposed restrictions to curb the spread of the Corona virus, in what could be a new blow to economic growth in the world’s second-largest economy.

Shares in giant EDF jumped 6.1 percent after sources said the French government would pay more than eight billion euros ($8.05 billion) to fully nationalize the company.
