Mozambique: extradition of Manuel Chang awaiting judicial decision

The extradition case of former Mozambican Finance Minister Manuel Chang, requested by the US and Mozambique, awaits a decision by the South African Supreme Court of Appeal, South African Justice Minister Ronald Lamola announced Monday.

The case is with the SCA [Supremo Tribunal de Recurso, na sigla em inglês] for argumentation and also for decision. That is where the case is,” the South African Justice Minister told a news conference.

Ronald Lamola called a press conference to update the country on the ongoing extradition cases of several fugitives from justice.

The United States of America and Mozambique have been calling for the extradition of former Mozambican Finance Minister Manuel Chang since 2018.

Manuel Chang was detained by the South African Police (SAPS) at the request of the United States at the Johannesburg International Airport. as of December 29, 2018en route to Dubai, accused of money laundering and financial fraudand is being held at Modderbee prison in Benoni, east of Johannesburg.
