The Union of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (Sitema) expressed this Friday its concern for the “management” of TAP, repudiating and “deeply” regretting the decision of the administration to resort to external suppliers where technicians fired by the air operator work.
In a statement, the union structure affirms that it is concerned “about the direction that TAP is taking and repudiates and deeply regrets” that the management of the Portuguese airline is “to resort to external suppliers, which in some cases employ vehicle maintenance technicians ”. .plane (TMA) fired by TAPto guarantee the maintenance services that could be provided within the company”.
The union highlights that, “last July, the 666 TMA [técnicos de manutenção de aeronaves] represented by Sitema accepted the airline’s proposal to return to the ‘full time’ schedule [tempo inteiro]ending the overtime strike that was ongoing.”
Therefore, the TMAs, he adds, they see “recourse to external companies as a betrayal carry out the maintenance tasks that could be carried out within the company, saving TAP, the State and taxpayers hundreds of thousands of euros”.
The union structure, chaired by Paulo Manso, is concerned “about the general direction the airline is taking, losing external customers, while sending work abroad, further damaging TAP’s image in the aviation sector.”
Sitema points out that “with this situation, TAP ends up losing in two ways: he loses significant income by refusing to work for third parties and loses with the payment he makes to companies where he hires the work he did at TAP”.
He also criticizes TAP because, despite the hiring of external companies, it continues “letting qualified technicians go out to tender and keeping TMA in the process of collective dismissal, when it urgently needs them”.
Despite not understanding “the reason for contradictory decisions that only damage the image of the company and its workers”, Sitema says that he remains “available to be part of the solution so that TAP continues to be considered a company of excellence, but not the”. it will question the good name of the TMAs and will do everything in its power to restore the working conditions that correspond to them.”
