Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) announced on Monday that the Senate has passed the $700 Billion Inflation Reduction Act.
Murphy told MSNBC’s Morning Joe that the law, which includes more than $300 billion in climate change programs, “will make people’s lives better.”
“All I know is that people’s lives will be better,” Murphy said. “We have millions of elderly people in this country who choose not to take the medicines their doctors prescribe because they can’t afford it. This law places a $2,000 limit on prescription drugs for the elderly. We have a planet that is warming at an unbearable rate. We have children all over the country wondering if adults can take this seriously before it’s too late – hurricanes, droughts, fires we can’t handle.”
“We now have a renewable energy incentive structure so electricity producers can start building not just more oil, gas and gas power plants, but solar and wind capacity.” “And I guess the most important thing to me in the end is that we really broke the back of the private interests that control Washington, right? There is no more powerful industry in Washington than the arms, oil and pharmaceutical industries. And for 30 years, you know, they suppressed it all. Clean energy law, drug price limits, gun charges. And I’m not saying we all did. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but suddenly you see the possibility of what can happen if you put aside such private interests and just do what’s right for people. So frankly, it’s going to be a really productive summer and people’s lives will be better as a result.”
