Novo Banco’s exposure to large debtors was 1,993 million euros at the end of 2021, says BdP

Novo Banco’s exposure to large creditors reached 1,993 million euros at the end of 2021, according to information released this Friday by the Bank of Portugal (BdP).

The entity, which this Friday published an update “of the aggregated and anonymized information of the large financial positions of Novo Banco”, indicated that the entity had, at the end of 2021, an exposure of 1,352 million euros in participations in capital instruments and equity. 642 million euros in groups of debtors.

BdP also recalls that the original exposure to these creditors was 7,598 million euros, with 509 million euros in amortized capital, 399 million euros in impairments and 3,552 million euros in other losses, at the end of 2021.

In its note, the BdP explained that “it makes available today, in compliance with Law No. “in the payment made by the Resolution Fund to Novo Banco last year, by virtue of and in compliance with the provisions of the Agreement of Contingent Capitalization, signed on October 18, 2017. Therefore, this information, with data related to December 31, 2021, now integrates and complements the disclosure made at the time on the same list of large financial positions of Novo Banco with reference to December 31, 2020”.

The largest exposure at the end of 2021 was 801 million euros, in a case of shareholdings, and one of 241 million euros, by a large debtor, according to the document.

The disclosed data is the responsibility of Novo Banco, and the document does not identify the debtors.
