Portugal is not present at the inauguration of Vladimir Putin

Like other countries boycotting the ceremony, Portugal will not be represented at the inauguration ceremony of the President of the Russian Federation.

Portugal will not send diplomatic representation to the inauguration ceremony of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, which will take place this Tuesday starting at 10 a.m. Portuguese time. The information was confirmed to the Observer by an official source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who reports that the Portuguese ambassador to Russia, Madalena Fischer, will also not be present at the event.

It thus joins the list of countries that, according to Reuters, have decided boycott the officialization of Putin’s sixth term, including the United States of America and Germany. A spokesperson for the European Union also confirmed that the European bloc’s ambassador to Russia will not attend the ceremony, in line with the position of the majority of member states.

“We do not consider the elections to have been free and fair, but he is the president of Russia and will continue in that capacity,” US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in statements to the news agency. The United Kingdom and Canada also confirmed that they did not send representatives to attend the ceremony.
