The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, said he was “shocked” by the assassination attempt on the Vice President of Argentina, condemning the violence of the attack and expressing his solidarity with the Argentine government and people.

The attacker infiltrated among the participants of the vigil.

The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, reported that the attack was not taken to the extreme because the firearm used by the attacker did not go off.

Before Guterres ruled on the attack, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights had already convicted of attempted murder and request that all elements related to the attack be clarified held on Thursday in Buenos Aires.

“We are in shock and it is crucial that an investigation is carried out into how things happened,” UN body spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said in Geneva.

Any type of political violence is reprehensible and it is important that differences are resolved through dialogue,” added Shamdasani.

Argentina is going through a period of strong political tension since Kirchner (former president of Argentina) is facing a corruption case.

Supporters of the current vice president have been gathering in the streets around the house where he lives since last week, when a prosecutor asked Kirchner to sentence him to 12 years in prison, as well as lifelong disqualification from holding public office under a case. of alleged corruption in public works when he was President (2007-2015).

The current Argentine head of state, Alberto Fernández, called this the “most serious incident” since Argentina’s return to democracy in 1983, and urged political leaders and society in general to repudiate the incident.
