Second day of strike of judicial employees reaches 98% adherence

The second day of strike called by the two unions of judicial employees this Friday had an adherence of between 98% and 99%, the Union of Justice Officials (SOJ) informed Lusa.

“We have figures of 98% to 99% at the national level. The challenge that I threw at people yesterday was that today they go to court and seek to know the reality. We know that, as a general rule, the Government always presents different numbers. That people see if the courts are open or closed and that they check if the government’s policy is true or a lie,” said SOJ president Carlos Almeida.

After a union delegation tried to deliver an open letter to the Minister of Justice, Catarina Sarmento e Castro – in which she sets out the main demands of the class and demands immediate measures for the problems of judicial officials – and was only received by the minister The chief of staff, Carlos Almeida, defended that the absence of the president “already says a lot that there is no justice program.”

“If the Ministry of Justice and the Government think that they are going to keep justice operators away from the fight, they are wrong. The bailiffs will continue fighting until these measures are effectively executed, that is our commitment”, he reiterated.

According to data from this Friday sent to Lusa by the Union of Judicial Employees (SFJ), the courts with 100% adherence or closed – on a day when the minimum services were no longer covered – amounted to 79. The president of the SFJ highlighted the “significant increase” in the numbers of joining the strike in relation to those registered on Thursday and expressed the expectation that this action will have results in the short term.

“We hope that the Ministry of Justice initiates a negotiation process with the unions that responds to our wishes, first of all for those that do not depend on the statutory review and that are enshrined in two pages of the General State Budgets: the integration of the complement of procedural recovery, the entry of new employees or the fulfillment of judicial decisions, with the regularization of careers and promotions”, António Marçal pointed out.

The union leader highlighted the need for the Ministry of Justice to immediately summon the unions to a meeting to start “the negotiation process in a serious and effective manner”, highlighting the importance of timing in the preparation of the next budget proposal.

“Some of the issues always collide with the budget issue and this is the right time for the government, when it presents the State Budget proposal for 2023, to have already duly addressed all these issues that we raise,” said António Marçal. Lusa, revealing that the SFJ will deliver a letter to the President of the Republic on Monday, also following messages to the Assembly of the Republic, parties, presidents of the Supreme Courts, the Attorney General of the Republic and the Ombudsman.
