German coalition government agrees third anti-inflationary package

The parties that make up the coalition government in Germany reached this Sunday, after several hours of negotiation, a new aid package for families to deal with the rise in energy bills and the cost of living.

This is the third aid package and its content will be presented today, during a joint press conference by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the leaders of the coalition parties, namely Saskia Esken, for the Social Democrats, Omid Nouripour, for the Greens. and Finance Minister Christian Lindner for the Liberals.

The first two packages, for a total of 30,000 million euros, included, among other benefits for citizens, a public transport voucher with tickets at 9 euros per month that allow travel throughout Germany and a discount on fuel, limited to three months ending in August.

Among the measures applied are also the elimination of the surcharge on the price of electricity intended to finance renewable energy and a single bonus of 100 euros per child and energy up to 300 euros.

In this third package, party leaders discussed targeted aid for low-income people, especially retirees and students, tax cuts and a possible successor to the nine-euro ticket for local transport.

After a few weeks of discussion, the negotiations began this Saturday, with the participation of Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the Minister of Finance, the Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Economy, the Green Robert Habeck, as well as other ministers and the leaders of the three parties. . .
