The Governor of Illinois promised. Even as rents rise for Chicago residents, “emergency housing” for immigrants arriving by bus from Texas is JB Pritzker (D).
Last week, the Governor of Texas. After sending thousands of passengers to the holy cities of Washington, DC and New York in the past few months, Greg Abbott (right) sends passengers across the border to the holy city of Chicago.
In response, Pritzker promised immigrants “emergency shelter” and “health screenings, COVID-19 vaccines, and… additional legal immigration assistance.”
Meanwhile, Chicago Mayor Laurie Lightfoot described Abbott’s busload of immigrants as “racist and xenophobic”, “immoral” and “patriotic”, according to Breitbart News.

Pritzker’s commitment to providing emergency housing for immigrants came as Chicagoans grappled with high rents and housing costs. The latest analysis shows Chicagoans are paying nearly 20 percent more rent this year than last year.
Today, the median rent in Chicago is more than $2,900, about 20 percent higher than the cost of rent for the same period last year. Rents were so high in Chicago that tenants formed unions to fight the landlords and the city.
Real estate investors are among the biggest beneficiaries of mass immigration to the United States. Immigration-induced population growth, which should increase the population of the United States to more than 400 million people by 2060, will likely drive home prices higher.
A study published in 2017 in the Journal of Housing Economics found that “increased migration to the Metropolitan Statistical Area is associated with increased rents and house prices in the Metropolitan Statistical Area and adjacent Metropolitan Statistical Areas.”
Since legal immigration brings more than one million legal immigrants to the United States each year, as well as more than one million temporary work visas, President Joe Biden’s administration also brings thousands of illegal immigrants. Foreigners are sent across the country each month to cross the border awaiting court hearings.
Meanwhile, newcomers need housing.
While it’s unclear exactly where cross-border and illegal aliens reside, the administration’s Alternative to Detention (ATD) program provides insight into the level of mass immigration that coincides with high housing costs in each city.
In August, the Biden administration arrested more than 13,000 illegal border crossers in Chicago as part of the ATD program. As of November 2020, the ATD program has sent less than 6,600 cross-border and illegal immigrants to Chicago.
