At least three people were killed and three senior law enforcement officials were injured in a mysterious explosion at a home in the state of Coahuila, on the border with Mexico.
The explosion occurred in Saltillo this morning. Law enforcement sources consulted by Breitbart Texas said the six agents who made up the Coahuila Attorney General’s security team were at the home in the Santa Fe Cactus area at the time.
According to preliminary information, 3 agents lost their lives as a result of the explosion, and the third agent died in the hospital he was taken to. Three officers were seriously injured. One of the injured was identified as Adrian Favela of AG security chief Gerardo Marquez Guevara.
According to authorities, the explosion was caused by a gas leak. But neighbors Breitbart Texas spoke to said they didn’t smell gas before or after the explosion. Law enforcement sources say the explosion was linked to a possible assassination plot against senior officials in the border state’s security apparatus, putting potential targets on high alert. According to law enforcement sources, the facts of the case and the motive theories are sparse and secret.
The explosion came as Coahuila state police clashed with cartel forces in the northern part of the area. A faction of the Del Noreste Los Zetas cartel launched attacks on the police using a series of armored vehicles. It is not yet clear whether the explosion was linked to a criminal organization.
