Poilivre, elected last weekend, campaigned against rising prices and inflation, which he called “fair inflation” after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, but reiterated his commitment to the working class in his first speech at a caucus in Ottawa on Monday.
Poilevre, who has a humble middle-class background, argued that Trudeau’s minority government had lost touch with ordinary working Canadians and urged the government, along with its ultra-left allies in the New Democratic Party (NDP), to abandon it. We will fight for it with all our hearts,” he said.
During her campaign, Poilivre spoke at length about people she met on the campaign trail and told her their stories, and said she met a mother whose son died of opioid addiction, workers who couldn’t afford rising fuel prices or new boats. for business. She also talked about young people who, despite having diplomas, have to live in small apartments or in their parents’ basements due to high housing prices.
“We know the problem – government spending increases the cost of living,” said Poilivre.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reacted by congratulating him on Poilevre’s election as CPC leader, but said Poilevre presented “highly dubious, reckless economic ideas” and said “Canadians need responsible leadership”. Buzzwords, dog whistles and reckless attacks don’t fit Canada’s plan.”
