The United States doesn’t need major legal or illegal immigration to be a great country, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at a pro-American meeting in Miami.
“There were times when we had high levels of immigration and success, and we had periods where we had great success with very low levels of immigration, for example… [in] Ten years after WWII,” he told viewers, according to a video released Sept.
“So the question is, how does immigration serve the US people and national interests?” “We are not globalists who believe that foreigners have the right to come to our country whenever they want,” he said.
By contrast, President Joe Biden said in his speech to Congress in 2021 that “immigration has always been important to America.” This claim echoes the 1950s narrative of the United States as a “nation of immigrants,” not a nation of Americans.
During the period of low immigration from 1924 to 1970, Americans’ wages, economic power, and technology increased. Since then, the government has been working with investors and companies to move manufacturing jobs overseas and import foreign workers to fill millions of service jobs.
DeSantis, 45 minutes after speaking at a conference on national conservatism, lamented the growing influence of corporations in national politics:
I am not a central planner. I do not want to do this. But corporatism is not the same as free enterprise. Too many Republicans believe that limited government basically means how we want to run the economy that’s best for corporate America. And I believe free enterprise is the best economic system.
But it is a means to achieve a goal. It is a way to have a good life and a prosperous society. This is not an end in itself and we must make sure we keep it carefully in mind.
The United States is an economic nation, not the other way around. Our economy should focus on helping our citizens.
“The idea of mass immigration, whether it’s illegal immigration or just mass immigration through a legitimate process – such as the diversity lottery or chain migration – does not help people integrate into American society.
DeSantis also sought to embarrass Democrats and President Joe Biden for the chaos, crime, and death that their policies to open the border to mass immigration from 10 p.m. brought:
Joe Biden takes office and replaces president [Donald] Trump’s border policy, who knows very well what the outcome will be. And, you know, a lot of illegal immigrants are thrown across the border as a result – trade in sex, traffic in people, traffic in drugs.
Fentanyl, which is produced by China to poison our society, enters this country from the southern border. And now we have the leading cause of death for people ages 18 to 45, fentanyl overdose. So it was a political disaster.
But it is also a constitutional disaster. Joe Biden has sworn to ensure that the laws of this country are faithfully enforced, and he is breaking his oath.
During the period of low immigration from 1925 to 1970, Americans’ wealth and living standards increased dramatically.
The most beneficiaries of the suspension of immigration were the poorest Americans, the farm poor in the Midwest and southern blacks, many of whom found job openings in northern industrial cities. The entire South is booming, with labor shortages pushing reluctant companies to invest in agricultural machinery and factories.
But East Coast leaders on both sides reopened the doors in 1965 and doubled the flow when President George W. Bush signed and enacted the 1990 immigration law.
Mass immigration policy was briefly delayed by President Donald Trump, but Biden accelerated it at his own political expense.

This policy has been used by the organization as an economic tool to remove tens of millions of foreign workers, buyers and tenants from poor countries through legal and quasi-legal means.
Since the economic policy of extractive immigration began in the 1990s, American wages have risen very slowly. Housing prices are rising, diversity, civil unrest and crime are rising, drug addiction is rising, and foreign workers are filling many positions at Fortune 500 companies.
The Brookings Institution acknowledged in 2017 that:
After adjusting for inflation, wages are only [emphasis added] Compared to 1973 in 2017, annual real wage growth was less than 0.2 percent. The US economy has experienced a prolonged stagnation in real wages and continued economic underdevelopment for many workers.
At the same time, the suppression of wages spurred the development of the stock market. For example, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has tripled since 1982 after inflation. The NASDAQ index has risen 24 times since 1982 because a high immigration economy has created many billionaires — and many poor millions who are Americans.
