Increases in natural gas and electricity prices for domestic customers, in regulated and liberalized markets, will go into effect this Saturdaywhich, in some cases, will weigh almost 40 euros more on the monthly bill.
The announcements of the increases were made one by one by merchants during the summer, but the entry into force of the new prices now occurs at the same time for all domestic customers and also for some small businesses.
EDP Comercial customers will pay for natural gas, on average, plus 30 euros per monthplus between five and seven euros of fees and taxes, an increase that the company justified with the escalation of prices in international markets, after a year without updating rates.
The new prices will be in effect for three months instead of one year as usual, subject to revisions up or down at the end of that period.
The company ruled out, however, “more changes at the end of the year in the price of electricity“, unless there are “exceptional situations in the coming months”.
In the case of Galp, the increase in the natural gas bill will be around eight euros, for the most representative group of customers.
The company also justified the increase with the “acquisition cost in line” with international market prices.
Galp had updated the price of natural gas on July 1, with an increase of about 3.60 euros at the most representative level.
In turn, Goldenergy customers will experience increases average of 10 euros on monthly gas bills, covering both families and small businesses.
Energy justified this increase with the costs of regulated accesses, the volatility of the market and the increase in the price of gas.
The new rate will apply until the end of the year, being reviewed in light of market changes.
These announcements led the Government to approve a measure that allows consumers in the liberalized market to return to the regulated gas market, as was already the case with electricity.
The regulated market offers cheaper rates, however, the Entidade Reguladora dos Serviços Energéticos (ERSE) announced a new increase in the price of energy in the regulated market for natural gas and electricity.
Thus, in that market an increase of 3.9% with respect to the previous month comes into force on this day and, given that updates were made throughout the year, the increase is 8.2% for the year 2022-2023, compared to the previous year (2021-2022).
In the case of electricity, regulated market customers will pay an additional five euros per megawatt-hour (MWh), equivalent to an average increase of 3% in their monthly bill.
Endesa’s customers remain without increases, which has agreed to maintain the contractual prices until December and to comply with the commitments established in the Iberian mechanism, after the company’s president indicated that electricity would rise by 40% in August.
Iberdrola did not announce increases either.
