The number of overnight stays by Brazilians in Portugal soared 748% between January and July this year, to 1.2 million, reflecting a strong recovery after two years of pandemicaccording to data from AICEP, provided to Lusa.
According to data sent by the Portuguese Investment and Foreign Trade Agency (AICEP), based on information from the National Statistics Institute (INE) and the Bank of Portugal (BdP), the number of overnight stays in Portugal increased to 1.2 million in the first seven months of the year, an increase of 748% over the same period last year, which represents 4.87% of the total number of foreigners who slept in Portugal.
In 2019, before the pandemic, the number of overnight stays by Brazilians in Portugal had reached 2.9 millionrepresenting 6.04% of the total number of foreigners.
These numbers dropped drastically in 2020 (692.3 thousand) and in 2021 (622.4 thousand).
The number of Brazilian guests in Portugal increased 924% in the first seven months of the year, to 496 thousand, which compares with the 48.4 thousand registered in the same period, corresponding to 6.10% of the total number of foreigners.
Tourism receipts from Brazil to Portugal also recovered, growing 481% to €362 million, well above the €62.3 million recorded in the first seven months of 2021.
In 2019, Brazil’s tourism receipts in Portugal amounted to €737.7 million, falling to €211.2 million in 2020 and €189.9 million in 2021.
