The Civil Aviation Pilots Union (SPAC) defended this Thursday that the renovation of the TAP fleet is “unacceptable” and that its suspension is the “only possible response”, stressing that public money is at stake.
The renewal of the fleet of TAP managers, at this time, is ethically and morally unacceptable”, reads a comment from the president of the SPAC, to which Lusa had access.
For the union, suspending the purchase of cars is “the only possible response” to correct a decision with which “no one can agree.”
The Executive Committee of TAP reported this Thursday, in a statement, that it will seek maintain the current vehicle fleet for a maximum period of one yearfor understanding the “general feeling of the Portuguese”, after the controversy over luxury cars.
In question is the news advanced by TVI/CNN Portugal and the Away portal, on Wednesday, that TAP ordered a new fleet of BMW cars for management and managersreplacing those of Peugeot.
The union stressed that this decision “is the least” that TAP could donoting that the airline’s management “cannot pretend that nothing is happening”, when public money is at stake.
“We are talking about respect. That is what this case is about and we only ask for more respect for TAP workers and taxpayers”, concluded the union structure.
TAP argues that the renewal of the car fleet allows a annual savings of 630 thousand eurosjustifying that it is about 50 vehicles, for which a tender was made to the market, with six entities invited to participate in the Portuguese market.
The case led the President of the Republic to point out to the Portuguese airline “a problem of common sense”, advocating moderation in difficult times.
