The EU helps Ukraine to restore electricity supply

The president of the European Commission assured the president of Ukraine on Friday that the European Union (EU) is working to help the country “restore and maintain” the supply of electricity and heating to the population.

“I conveyed to President Volodymyr Zelensky the EU’s full solidarity with Ukraine, which is suffering from Putin’s deliberate and barbaric bombardment of the country’s civilian infrastructure,” Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement after speaking by phone with Zelensky.

This new aid is made up of 200 medium transformers and one large autotransformer from Lithuania, another medium autotransformer from Latvia, and 40 heavy duty generators corresponding to “rescEU” located in Romania.

“Each of these generators can provide uninterrupted power to a small to medium-sized hospital,” he said.

On the other hand, he said that Brussels is in contact with companies to obtain high voltage equipment from member states for transport to Ukraine.
