Nearly 90% of school canteens were affected this Monday by the strike of canteen workers, according to a balance made at the end of the afternoon by the Hotel and Restaurant Union.
The strike included all workers in concession canteens in schools, hospitals, factories and services.
In statements to the Lusa news agency, the president of the Center’s Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism and Similar Industry Workers Union, António Baião, said that, at the national level, unemployment affected about 90% of school canteens.
In the case of canteens in factories, hospitals and establishments, there were limitations in about half of the services.
At stake are the negotiations with the Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Similar of Portugal (AHRESP), with the union for demand a review of the pay scaleincreases, recognition of seniority of workers and recognition of work on Saturdays and Sundays.

Faced with the transfer of powers in education from the State to the municipalities, the municipalities began to choose to end the concessions to private companies and advance in the hiring of personnel to guarantee the service, said António Baião.
