Glenfiddich, the perfect whiskey to accompany a LOCO experience

Since it rolled out of the stills on Christmas Day 1887, Glenfiddich whiskey has been noted for its revolutionary practices and independent attitude, traits that have made it the world’s best-selling and most awarded single malt whiskey brand.

This fame, however, has not altered its essence and Glenfiddich continues today, 135 years after its founding, being produced by the same family and in the same distillery that its founder, William Grant, built in Dufftown, in the north of Scotland. .

It was at this distillery that Alexandre Silva, a 42-year-old Portuguese chef, was inspired to respond to the brand’s challenge: to promote two Glenfiddich experiences at LOCO, his Lisbon restaurant, which has had a Michelin star since 2016 and has already been renovated. seven times.

These experiences, which will take place under the name of Maverick’s Table, will bring the most awarded single malt whiskey to the tables as an ingredient and accompaniment to dishes in an unprecedented tasting menu that will appeal to all the senses. The first event will take place in March and the second in September.

But the relationship between the Chef and the brand does not end there. In his other restaurant in Lisbon, FOGO, a new cocktail menu will appear in February, inspired by the characteristics and qualities of this whiskey and by Alexandre Silva’s visit to the so-called Vale do Veado, the Portuguese meaning of the Gaelic expression Glenfiddich – and that explains, thus, the deer that appears on the labels since its foundation.

This is a marriage of character: both the brand and the Chef are visionaries, restless, adventurous and connected with nature. Alexandre Silva, who went from a possible musical career -as a saxophonist- to cooking, influenced by his grandfather, did not hesitate to accept Glenfiddich’s invitation. Knowing the brand “forever”, he considered it “the ideal element to create different cocktails and harmonize (…) dishes in the most innovative way possible”.

The inspiration you found in the Scottish landscapes will be very present in the dishes you will serve in these Maverick’s Table experiences. The menu remains a secret of the gods and of Alexander, but one thing is certain: it will not cease to amaze.
