TAP will be the official “air transport partner” of World Youth Day with the aim of mobilizing a greater number of young pilgrims from all continents, it was announced this Friday.
TAP Air Portugal and the World Youth Day Foundation (WYD) signed a collaboration agreement this Friday that makes the company an official “air transport partner” of the event, which will take place in August in Lisbon, with a view to “facilitate the participation of pilgrims in the largest international meeting of young people with Pope Francis”, say the two entities, in a statement.
With this collaboration, TAP Air Portugal will reward pilgrims advantageous travel conditions on flights operated by the company that land or take off from Lisbon and Porto airports up to 10 days before or after the start of WYD, depending on the protocol.
Quoted in the statement, the president of the WYD Lisbon 2023 Foundation, Américo Aguiar, affirms that “the association with TAP Air Portugal it is important to mobilize and facilitate the participation of young people from other continents to WYD, allowing them to travel to the country to witness and live this great international meeting”.
For her part, the general director of TAP, Christine Ourmières-Widener, considers that “since its foundation, almost 78 years ago, TAP is associated with the biggest events in the history of PortugalTherefore, “it is unavoidable that TAP be a partner in this event with global impact”.
WYD, considered the largest event of the Catholic Church, will take place this year in Lisbon, between August 1 and 6, with the presence of Pope Francis and an expected attendance of 1.5 million people.
