On November 28, at 9:30 a.m., the Auditorium of the Higher School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo will host the event “Offshore wind energy, the opportunities of the blue economy.”
Organized by the Repsol Foundation in collaboration with the Viana do Castelo Polytechnic Institute, the event has guests and speakers who will address topics such as the challenges of offshore wind energy, what is already planned to be done in Portugal, the role of industries and infrastructures in the development of this technology and that new employment opportunities may arise from it.
Wind energy exploited on the coasts is one of the strategic vectors for the energy transition in Europe. The wind on the high seas is a natural, renewable and inexhaustible resource, stronger and more constant than on land, which allows great energy use.
And that is why investments in this technology have been growing. In fact, the International Renewable Energy Agency predicts that the world’s installed offshore wind capacity could reach 350 GW by 2030, of which the European Union aims to have 110 GW.
Due to its characteristics, Portugal presents very favorable conditions for the development of floating wind farm projects, as well as a very important industrial and innovation capacity, which positions it as one of the leading countries in manufacturing, export and technological development.
If you are interested in learning more about offshore wind energy, register for the November 28 event by completing the form available online.
