Groundforce attack canceled

The Airport, Maintenance and Aviation Workers Union (STAMA) called off the Groundforce strike that was due to start on Friday, the union structure announced.

As Fernando Simões, from STAMA, explained to the Lusa news agency, the Groundforce bankruptcy administration was willing to address the workers’ claims.

“At this moment there is a declaration of commitment to finalize an agreement to accept these claims, for which we, in good faith, agree to end the strike,” said the union leader.

Consulted by Lusa about which claims were covered by this response commitment by the company, the person in charge pointed out as an example the breach of the Company Agreement with regard to schedule changes.

“Time changes are made in a way that does not respect what is established in the Company Agreement and, when the workers say no, because what is established is not complied with in the agreement they have had problems even from the disciplinary forum”, he exemplified.

The union leader also highlighted the “Effort on the part of the management to satisfy the demands of the workers.

“The commitment that was assumed with us makes us believe that we are going to reach an understanding, we just need to specify it. The guarantees that they gave us were such that we see it with good eyes to lift the strike now, ”he added.

The strike notice that STAMA had issued covered the 24 hours of March 3 and 4 and, as of March 5, applied only to overtime, including holidays.
