Government maintains fuel discount in April

The Ministry of Finance maintains measures to mitigate the rise in fuel prices until April 17, with a reduction in the tax burden equal to that of March, equivalent to 34 cents per liter of diesel and gasoline.

The revision of the tax rates of petroleum and energy products (ISP) has been published this Monday in a government order, valid until April 17 and reflecting a compensation via the reduction of the ISP of the additional VAT collection (equivalent to a decrease in the rate from 23% to 13%), resulting from changes in fuel prices, in addition to maintaining the suspension of the update of the carbon VAT rate.

“The total discount of the tax burden is maintained, since the carbon tax remains suspended, applying the values of 2021, and the discounts in the ISP are maintained with respect to the month of March, given the evolution of fuel prices observed in recent weeks”, says the Ministry of Finance, in a statement released this Monday.

For diesel, the current discount is 18.2 cents per liter, and for gasoline, 19 cents per liter.including the respective VAT discount, it says in the statement.

The executive also determined to maintain the suspension of the carbon tax update in March 2023, resulting in an additional discount of 13.4 cents per liter of diesel and 12.2 cents per liter of gasoline, compared to the carbon tax. which would be set in 2023, based on the evolution of the European trading prices of the auctions of greenhouse gas emission rights.

To this discount is added the respective VAT, which thus amounts to 15.8 cents per liter of diesel and 15 cents per liter of gasoline, a discount that the ministry says it has maintained “unchanged” compared to March 2023.

The statement also reports on the “mandatory mention” of the ISP+VAT discount on invoices: “The value of the discount on the tax charge (ISP+VAT) must appear, in an updated manner, as a mandatory mention, duly identified on the respective invoices or equivalent document”.

Finally, the executive recalls that the current support for fuel prices, in force since the beginning of last year, is in the process of being reassessed to ensure its adequacy and compliance with the current evolution of fuel prices.
