The announcement was made this Monday by the technology company, which indicates that it intends to speed up the production of games by allowing the creation of unique characters “very easily and very quickly”, reducing costs and saving “weeks” of work for development teams. .
Joao Orvalho, Head of Technology of Didimo, indicates that the advantage of the new tool, called Popul8, is not only that it allows “creating a thousand or 10 thousand characters in a few minutes”, something that, as a rule, implies “weeks and weeks of work”. ” — but also “memory optimization in games”. “We help create [de personagens] and we allow them to be in the game at the same time ”, he adds.
In statements to the Observer, João Orvalho affirms that through “a concrete case” it was possible to perceive that Popul8 allowed “reduce the budget that a game had for the creation of characters by 90%”. Asked if in that case it had been possible to develop more characters than initially planned, but for less money, he replied that it was “probable”. However, he highlighted another conclusion: “You can do the same number of characters, but faster.”
Currently, the tool is “oriented to game companies”, to the studios and teams that produce them, but the technology does not rule out the possibility of expanding this concept in the future so that the players themselves can create the character “and modify it” . in any way”, so that they feel represented”.
