The economist and first president of the Public Finance Council, Teodora Cardoso, died this Saturday in Lisbon at the age of 81, a source from the Bank of Portugal informed Lusa.
Born in 1942 in Estremoz, Teodora Cardoso began her career in 1973 as a technician at the Bank of Portugal, working in the Department of Statistics and Economic Studies. She headed that department from 1985 to 1990 and was a management consultant from 1991 to 1992.
In 1992, Teodora Cardoso joined Banco Português de Investimento (BPI) and was a management consultant for 16 years until becoming a member of the board of directors of Banco de Portugal.
In 2012, the economist took over the leadership of the Public Finance Council, stating that she would work with “the greatest exemption.” She left office in 2019.
