Economist warns that no ordinance has yet been published to recalculate pensions

The ordinance with the remuneration update coefficients used to calculate pensions from 2024 has not yet been published, which means that the amount these pensioners receive is lower, warned economist Eugénio Rosa.

The alert comes at a time when the first half of the year has almost passed, without the aforementioned ordinance having been published, the economist points out in a study published on his website.

“We are already in mid-2024, and both the governments of Costa and Montenegro have not published the ordinance with the salary update coefficients used to calculate the pensions of all workers who retire and retire in 2024,” says Eugénio Rosa , pointing out the legal framework obligation to publish this ordinance annually.

This ordinance that updates the salary revaluation coefficients must be published every year, since old salaries are taken into account in the calculation of pensions, so it is necessary to update them taking inflation into account.

The consequence of this delay, explains Eugénio Rosa, “is that all workers who retire or retire this year, while the decree is not published, will receive pensions lower than those to which they are entitled by law.”

In this sense, the economist advises people who retired this year, “demand that Social Security and Caixa Geral de Aposentações update the pensions granted in 2024 as of January 1, 2024.”

In 2022 and 2023, the respective ordinances were published late – which led the economist to issue similar warnings – and the salary revaluation coefficients were published retroactively to January of those years.
