EuroBic reassures workers after Abanca acquisition

EuroBic reassured workers after being acquired by Abanca, assuring them that there was no reason to worry, according to a statement from unions linked to UGT.

In the note, Mais Sindicato, the Financial Sector Workers Union (SBN) and the National Union of Banking, Insurance and Technology Workers (SBC) met with EuroBic on Wednesday, “following the communication on the Formalization of the acquisition of the Bank by Abanca“.

“Given the understandable expectations and concerns of workers regarding their professional future, these unions wanted to obtain information about the ongoing process,” they explained in the statement.

According to the union structures, this was “the first of several meetings planned with the aim of accompanying the development of the process step by step, thus implementing the commitment made by the Credit Institution (IC) in July.”

The unions indicated that the banks mentioned that “after the recent formalization of the acquisition, Standardization of processes and procedures is underway.That is, IT, between the two CIs, which will remain independent.”

“It should also be noted that Eurobic and Abanca are monitoring the workers and their teams to ensure that the transition process takes place without problems,” they said.

The unions said that at the meeting they were told that “the Human capital is essential“.

“In this regard, they also stated that there is no reason for the workers to be worried, as they recognize the merit of the workers and expect them to continue doing what they have been doing until now,” he said.

The structures highlighted at the meeting “the Importance of maintaining dialogue with unions.so that everything that may affect workers is, at all times, previously analyzed and reported.”

Abanca completed the purchase of EuroBic in July, the Spanish banking group announced, adding that with this acquisition it becomes the seventh banking entity in Portugal.
