Carris workers in Lisbon begin a 24-hour strike this Tuesday at 10 p.m.

Carris workers will begin a 24-hour strike at 10 p.m. on Tuesday to demand higher wages, a union source told Lusa, who regretted that the company’s management had not responded to their demands.

The protest action is called by the Federation of Transport and Communications Trade Unions (Fectrans) and the Union of Road and Urban Transport Workers of Portugal (STRUP).

This is a request for Salary scale increase of 100 euros and 15 allowances.as Manuel Leal, from FECTRANS, explained to Lusa.

“Unfortunately, Carris management did not respond to our demands and we will continue with this 24-hour strike,” said the union leader.

The strike will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday and end at the same time on Wednesday.

“We expect a very strong participation”said Manuel Leal, adding that workers will hold a plenary session on Wednesday at 11 a.m. to discuss “future forms of struggle.”

This strike is not accompanied by other Carris union structures, namely the National Union of Drivers and other Workers (SNMOT), Sitra – Transport Workers Union and Sitese – Service Sector Workers Union.

These unions signed an agreement with the Carris administration, in which they accepted a proposal to increase the salary scale by 60 euros, plus about 13 euros per month as a per diem.
