Kamala Harris admits she’s focused on voting for black men

The Democratic candidate said she “will not assume” the votes of black men because “she is black,” guaranteeing that she is working to get votes from all demographic groups.

US Vice President Kamala Harris admitted to working to win over black male voters and not disparaging any voters, as she gave a rare, lengthy campaign interview to three journalists from the National Association of Black Journalists.

“I think it’s very important not to act under the assumption that black men are in someone’s pocket.“said the Democratic candidate for the American presidential elections today.

“Black men are just like any other voting group. You have to earn their vote, so I’m working to earn their vote, not assuming that I’m going to get it because I’m black,” she added.

Black male voters They are traditionally one of the most Democratic demographic groups in the country. But Republicans are trying to make progress in that area, while Democrats fear that enthusiasm at the polls will weaken.

Harris’ interview in Philadelphia came just a month after former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump’s appearance before the same organization turned contentious over racial and other issues.

The interview with Trump opened a chapter in the campaign in which the Republican candidate repeatedly questioned Kamala Harris’ racial identity, baselessly claiming that she “turned black” at some point in her professional career.

Since then, Trump has repeatedly questioned his Democratic rival’s racial identity during the campaign.

Kamala Harris, the daughter of a Jamaican father and an Indian mother, repeatedly dismissed Trump’s comments as “the same old show.”

During this month’s presidential debate against Trump, the vice president called it a “tragedy” that the former president had “tried to use race to divide the American people.”

Trump, along with his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, and other Republicans have criticized Harris for largely avoiding interviews or interacting on the record with reporters covering her campaign events.

Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, gave a joint interview to CNN last month. The Democratic campaign recently said it will focus more on local media, and last week she gave her first solo television interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, answering questions from a Philadelphia station.

Asked whether Americans are better off today than they were four years ago, when she and current President Joe Biden took office, Harris did not directly answer the question. Instead, she referenced the state of the economy during the Covid-19 pandemic and mentioned her plans to try to lower housing costs and touted herself as a “new generation” of leader.

Kamala Harris argued that her candidacy offers the country the opportunity to “turn the page on an era that has, unfortunately, seen attempts by some to incite fear to create division in the country.”

During Trump’s interview with the National Association of Black Journalists, the Republican billionaire harshly criticized the moderators and drew boos from the audience.

Kamala Harris has avoided appearances in the mainstream press, choosing instead to focus on rallies, grassroots organizing and social media engagement — platforms where the vice president can avoid questions from independent journalists about her political record and proposed agenda.
