PCP begins parliamentary day focused on the State Budget

This Monday, the PCP begins parliamentary sessions in the Assembly of the Republic to deepen the analysis of the State Budget proposal, through public hearings, and “move forward with solutions that are necessary” for the country.

The parliamentary days begin at 11:30 with a session that will feature the interventions of the general secretary of the PCP, Paulo Raimundo, and the parliamentary leader of the party, Paula Santos, and will end on Tuesday, with a press conference to present the conclusions.

Speaking to reporters in parliament, Paula Santos highlighted that the topic of these parliamentary sessions will be “the State Budget and the solutions that the country needs.”highlighting that, during the two days, PCP deputies will hold hearings in the Assembly of the Republic to seek to deepen the analysis of the budget proposal.

“These hearings will be a contribution to the preparation of the proposals and solutions that we want to present in the context of the budget debate,” explained Paula Santos, highlighting that the conferences will also serve to “denounce the consequences” of the current Government management. political options.

This afternoon a hearing is planned on “the needs of the country, the political options and the Government’s State Budget proposal for 2025”, which will be attended by several economists, including Ricardo Paes Mamede.

On Tuesday, Paula Santos and deputy Alfredo Maia will also organize a public hearing on public administration and public services, with the presence of public administration workers’ organizations, while deputy António Filipe will visit the CP – Comboios of Portugal, in Campolide.

Paula Santos highlighted that the PCP wants to listen to these different sectors to understand what their priorities are, at a time when “A set of problems, degradation, loss of quality” of public services have been identified and in which it is “necessary to invest to guarantee health, value public schools, and guarantee the right to housing.”

Based on this diagnosis, Paula Santos said that the party intends to “identify and advance the solutions necessary to resolve the most pressing problems” of the country, highlighting that the party intends to present budget proposals soon.

The parliamentary leader of the PCP recalled that, if it were up to her party, the Government “would not even have come into office.” and this program would not even be being implemented” – alluding to the motion to reject the Government program presented by the communists in March – and maintained that “it is urgent to stop, break with these political options and move forward with an alternative.” policy”.

“And our proposals, the solutions that we will advance within the framework of the discussion of this budget demonstrate that it is fair, that it is possible and necessary to implement these proposals to solve specific problems,” he stressed.

These will be the second parliamentary days that the PCP will organize in this legislature. The last ones, in May, took place on the Setúbal peninsula and focused on the environment and national development.
