Justice. Officers’ strike once again postpones start of Operation Praetorian training

The start of the Operation Praetorian investigation, which includes among the nine accused Fernando Madureira, former leader of the entertainer Super Dragões, was postponed this Friday for the second consecutive week, due to the bailiffs’ strike.

The beginning of this optional phase, which aims for a criminal investigation judge to decide whether the process continues and in what form for the trial, requested by some defendants, was scheduled for 9:30 a.m., in the Criminal Investigation Court (TIC ) from Porto, but was rescheduled for Monday at the same time.

The investigation phase will begin with the interrogations of Fernando Madureira, who has been in preventive detention for nine months, and Sandra Madureira.his wife and former vice president of Super Dragões, one of the organized fan groups associated with FC Porto.

The hearings will continue with some of the other defendants, including Carlos Nunes, better known as ‘Jamaica’, José Pedro Pereira and Fernando Saúl, former employee of the ‘blue and white’ club.

“This seriously complicates our defense work, but employees have the right to strike. “It’s legitimate.” admitted Cristiana Carvalho, Saúl’s lawyer, in statements to journalists outside the TIC, revealing that her client’s interrogation has not yet been rescheduled.

This is the so-called Praetorian Operation, whose accusation by the Public Ministry (MP) denounces a possible attempt by the Super Dragões to “create a climate of intimidation and fear” in a General Assembly (GA) of FC Porto, in November. September 13, 2023, in which several incidents and attacks occurred, so a statutory review could be approved “in the interest of the management” of the club, then led by Pinto da Costa.

Fernando Madureira is the only defendant in preventive detention, while the remaining eight were released in different phases, among them Sandra Madureira, Fernando Saúl, Vítor Catão or Hugo Carneiro, nicknamed ‘Polaco’ and also with links to the cheerleaders.

These are 19 crimes of coercion and aggravated threat, seven of crimes against physical integrity in the context of a sporting event.one for public instigation to commit a crime, another for throwing objects or liquid products and three for attacks on freedom of information.

Hugo Carneiro is also accused of possession of a prohibited weapon, and the MP demands additional penalties of prohibition of access to sports venues for between one and five years.

FC Porto and SAD, director of blue and white professional football, became assistants to the Praetorian Operation, which began on January 31, within the framework of the investigation into the contempt observed in the club’s extraordinary GA, which resulted in the arrest of 12 people.
